Daniel Forbes Carraway, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 9th, 2026, following a courageous battle against an aggressive brain cancer. He was 70 years of age. “Danny” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Raised in Merrimon, North Carolina, Danny enjoyed tending the family farm, rebuilding tractor engines, attending church services, or playing football for his alma mater - East Carteret High School.
Upon graduating high school, Danny married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn, and began his career with the United States Coast Guard. During his service, Danny and Evelyn had 3 children together. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
Following his retirement from the Coast Guard, Danny spent the next few years working for the Atlantic Drydock Corporation in Florida. As the years passed, he began to feel a sense of duty to return to his Eastern North Carolina roots. He wanted to help care for the family and friends that were so instrumental in his upbringing.
In the late 1990s, he moved his family back to Eastern North Carolina. There, Danny began working at Jarrett Bay Boatworks. After 20+ years of work at Jarrett Bay, Danny retired for the second time. This time, he chose to enjoy retirement and spent his free time helping loved ones and serving his home church.
Danny was preceded in death by his father, Allen, his mother, Verna, and his sister, Ellen.
Danny is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Chris (wife Kristen and sons Jayden and Ashton), Nick, and Sabrina (boyfriend Quentin); and his brother David (wife Lisa).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Merrimon Methodist Church on Sunday, November 8th at 2pm, with visitation beforehand beginning at 1pm.
