Trenton

Gail Philyaw Mitchell, 72, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Gail’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Albert “Junior” Mitchell; her sons, Trey Mitchell and wife Whitney, and Jeffrey Mitchell and wife Sheena; her treasured grandchildren, Wyatt and Sawyer, and grand-dog Duke. Few things made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren - she adored them deeply and loved watching them grow.

She is also survived by her siblings, Mike Philyaw, Kim Brinson, and Terri Philyaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Frances Philyaw, and her siblings Edna Jones, Gilbert Philyaw, and Kevin Philyaw.

Throughout her life, Gail worked in many roles, but her greatest fulfillment came from serving others. She especially cherished her time volunteering with Comfort EMS, working at Tracey’s Florist, alongside her sister Kim at K&L Video, and running the Richlands Methodist Church Thrift Shoppe. Gail had a true gift for floral design - her arrangements were as full of life and color as she was, bringing beauty and happiness to everyone who saw them.

Gail loved fishing, playing softball, and cheering on her sons in their many sports through the years. She had a deep love for the Christmas Holidays, and her family will fondly remember her signature deer and gravy — a favorite family meal.

Gail’s strong faith and love for the Lord carried her through many health challenges. Though she faced years of struggle, she did so with grace, courage, and an unwavering spirit. She is now free from pain and resting in the arms of Jesus.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gail’s honor to your local church or a charity of your choice.
