SSgt Patrick Louis Takacs

Patrick Louis Takacs, 59, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his wife, Isma, and his daughters, Patricia and Susan.

Pat was born on February 14, 1967, in Flint, Michigan, to Frank and Janice Takacs.

On September 1, 1990, Pat married the love of his life, soulmate, and best friend, Isma Takacs (Blanchard).

Together they shared more than 35 years of marriage, building a life rooted in unwavering love, faith, loyalty, and family. Together they raised six children and created a home filled with strength, laughter, and unconditional love. Pat adored his wife and remained devoted to her throughout their life together.

Pat proudly served his country for 20 years. He began his military career in the United States Army, serving four years as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic before continuing his service in the United States Marine Corps for 16 years. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2006 with the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving as a Personnel Administration Chief.

Throughout his distinguished military career, Pat earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (2nd Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Certificates of Commendation (2nd Award), Certificate of Appreciation, Rifle Expert Badge (8th Award), and Pistol Expert Badge. Pat wore the uniform with immense pride and honor, faithfully serving his country and those alongside him.

Beyond his military service, Pat had a lifelong passion for restoring classic American muscle cars. He found great satisfaction in bringing forgotten vehicles back to life, dedicating countless hours to rebuilding and restoring them. His favorite project was his beloved 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird in Atlantis Blue—his favorite car and favorite color. Pat loved the thrill of driving fast and never passed up an open road. He proudly passed that love on to his family, teaching each of them not only how to drive, but to appreciate the freedom and joy that came with it. To Pat, every restoration represented patience, determination, and hope. He also proudly bled black and gold as a faithful Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

For more than 30 years, Pat endured chronic pain and underwent nearly 30 surgeries. Despite the hardships he faced, he never complained or sought sympathy. Instead, he met each day with quiet strength, humility, perseverance, and unwavering determination. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and carried every burden with dignity. One of the lessons he lived by and often shared was, “Every day you’ll be tested.” Through pain, surgeries, disappointments, and life’s many challenges, Pat exemplified courage and resilience, becoming an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

Pat’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Isma Takacs (Blanchard); his stepson, Richard McKelvey; his daughter, Patricia Farmer; his son, Patrick Takacs II; his daughter, Susan Takacs; his cherished 14 grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy; and his best buddy, CWO5 Michael McCarthy, whose friendship and brotherhood meant the world to him.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Janice Takacs; his sister, Susan Henderson (Takacs); and his beloved grandson, Jacob Wayne Gibson Jr. (“JJ”).

Pat will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast faith, selfless service, devoted love for his family, remarkable work ethic, and his ability to find purpose even through life’s greatest trials. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the lives he touched, and the family he loved beyond measure.

Funeral services for Pat will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Morehead City, North Carolina.
