Rebecca June Glass of Newport, NC, passed away on the evening of July 22, 2025, at the Hospice House in Newport. She was 85 years old.
Rebecca, born in Kentucky on June 6, 1940, was raised in Plain City, Ohio. Born to Ambrose and Rebecca Phillips, she was the sixth of eight children. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Hazel and Lydia, and brothers Harold and George Daniel. Her sisters Maggie and Joyce and brother Ambrose still reside in Ohio.
She was a graduate of Jonathan Alder High School. Married to John Glass, Rebecca had two children, John Glass Jr. and Alexander Glass. Her husband passed away in 2020. John Glass Jr. lives in Ohio and Alex lives in Newport, NC. Her pride and joy were her two grandsons, Ian Glass and Cooper Glass, sons of Alex and his wife Mary Helen.
Rebecca, a long-time member of The Sanctuary of Newport, was known for her kindness towards and willingness to spend time with children. She enjoyed making crafts such as birdhouses, stained glass, quilts, blankets, rugs, and other woven items. She also enjoyed drawing, coloring, and painting. Often, she would give these handmade creations away to babies, children, and friends. At church she is known for making her “buckeyes”, a delicious treat of peanut butter and chocolate. She was always smiling and knew how to turn bad situations into something good. Her vibrant blue eyes were always noticed.
Rebecca loved flowers, butterflies, lighthouses, birds, and trips to church, Walmart, McDonalds, and of course, thrift stores. She would read the Bible out loud every year and make sure to pronounce every word. Rebecca was a giver to the end and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
