Shirley Marie Scott

Shirley Marie Scott, born August 7,1948. Ms. Shirley lost her long battle with lung cancer on December 18, 2024.

Shirley was the third child of Kathleen and Stuart Scott. She is predeceased by both her parents and her older brother Robert Scott. She is survived by her older brother Stuart Scott, Jr. and his wife, Pat. She is also survived by her only daughter, Pam Ketner and her husband Scott. As well as her two grandsons, Mark Ketner and Matthew Ketner.

Shirley spent many years working in the legal profession. She was the administrative assistant to the Chief Judge at the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC. Once she retired in 2006, she moved to New Bern to be closer to her daughter and two grandsons. During this time, she took care of and sometimes provided taxi services for her grandsons to and from school and to other activities prior to them getting their driver’s licenses. After that she spent her time reading, surfing the internet and following politics.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Gorman and the staff of Carolina East Cancer Center for allowing Shirley to maintain relatively good pain free health for almost six years. There were many struggles, but she was able to achieve everything that was on her bucket list from the time she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019.

The family also wishes to recognize and thank all of the staff at SECU 3HC Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport for everything they did for Ms. Shirley while she was there and during the last stages of her life. Along with a special thank you to Ms. Rebecca McConkey a volunteer with Craven County Hospice and friend of the family.

Shirley will be forever in our hearts and will be missed always. As per her request, no services will be provided.
